tl-starnav Docs

tl-starnav is Tyr Laboratories' command-link and navigation platform for BVLOS remotely piloted aircraft operating over Starlink. It gives you two things no commodity stack provides together:

  • a transparent Layer-2 bridge between your ground control station (GCS) and the aircraft — Mission Planner, camera and payload streams, and any IP device on either side behave as if they share one Ethernet segment, even over a lossy satellite path; and
  • Starlink-dish-derived GPS forwarded to ArduPilot as MAVLink position aiding ("always send, never lie, let the EKF decide") for navigation resilience when GNSS is degraded or denied.

This is the customer + operator documentation. It covers everything you need to go from a sealed box to a flight-ready system.

Get flight-ready

  • :material-download: Install

Set up the GCS application and provision your aircraft.

  • :material-update: Mandatory Update

The required pre-first-flight update. Do this before you fly.

  • :material-airplane: Operate

Day-to-day operation: connect, monitor the link, fly, and read the dashboard.

  • :material-lifebuoy: Support & FAQ

Troubleshooting, common questions, and how to reach us.

The path to first flight

  1. Install the GCS application and provision the aircraft.
  2. Run the Mandatory Update — this is a required step before your first flight.
  3. Follow the Operate guide to bring up the link and fly.

Do not fly before the mandatory update

The pre-first-flight update brings your aircraft and GCS to a known-good, mutually-compatible version. Flying before it can leave the command link or navigation in an unsupported state. See Mandatory Update.
